Ice-O-Gel is a tightener and freeze that aids in the treatment of tendon and ligament problems like bowed tendons, stocking up (edema), suspensory ligament damage and wind puffs. Ice-O-Gel cools, draws and tightens with little or no scurfing.
Application Instructions:
Supplies needed:
- Ice-O-Gel.
- Two or three squares of paper toweling or brown Kraft paper per leg.
- Standing bandage (leg wrap and bandage).
Directions:
- First, apply freely to leg by rubbing against and with hair.
- Then, apply to leg by rubbing only with the hair.
- Wrap with paper toweling or brown Kraft paper.
- Place standing bandage around leg. Leave on leg for 48 to 72 hours.
- Repeat if necessary. Leave Ice-O-Gel on leg while working out or walking horse. Remove with warm water. To freeze horses' legs before racing, competitions or workouts, apply Ice-O-Gel (as directed above in steps 1-4) the night before. On the morning of the race or competition, 2 hours prior to actual competition, rub Ice-O-Gel into the leg, paint over with DMSO, if desired, and wrap with a standing bandage. Prior to actually competing, remove bandage and rub in more Ice-O-Gel, followed by an application of DMSO.
- Wrap with a cold water bandage and place leg in ice tub or ice boot.
- Remove cold water bandage just before the event.
Ice-O-Gel can also be used in conjunction with DMSO if desired (for example, as shown above), but it is not necessary.
Ice-O-Gel as a tightener:
Apply using the same steps 1 through 4 above. Repeat these steps for as many days as the condition seems necessary. Leave Ice-O-Gel on leg while working out or walking the horse. Remove Ice-O-Gel with warm water.
Ice-O-Gel as a Freeze before competition:
- Apply Ice-O-Gel the night before competition as directed in steps 1 through 4 above.
- The morning of competition reapply Ice-O-Gel; paint over the Ice-O-Gel with DSMO. Apply standing bandages.
- Approximately two hours before competition, remove standing bandages. Re-apply Ice-O-Gel and paint the area with DSMO once again. Apply cold water bandages and place leg in an ice tub or ice boot. The horse should remain in the ice as close to competition as possible.
