This is made in China and too expensive for what it is. The wood is stained so can't tell what kind it is but it is a soft wood like pine and not very thick. The hinges are stamped metal and mine were embossed incorrectly as to which side they went on. It is poor quality workmanship which is normal for stuff coming out of the US-owned manufactories in China. The design is good and the hinged lid is great so I can lift it up and add water and food to the dish inside. I am using this for my feral cats to be able to get out of the weather and their heated combo dish is protected along with a heated bed pad. I don't expect this to stand up to the extremes in weather we have in Montana but too expensive to pay shipping from and back to refuse it.KP, Wed Feb 19, 2014
