Easycare, Inc., in collaboration with Old Mac's, has released a new and improved 'Generation 2' Old Mac Multi-purpose Horse Boot. Sold in pairs .

The G2 boot is a fine-tuned version of its predecessor, re-engineered for a sleeker look, better performance and greater longevity. One of its most positive features is a new tread pattern that provides aggressive traction while eliminating pressure on sensitive internal hoof structures. While traction is extremely important, very aggressive traction can inhibit a horse's natural movements and can increase stress on joints, tendons and upper extremities.

The G2 provides cushioning at the sole (the suspension system), while allowing the tread to 'take hold' of the road or any other challenging surface. Another enhancement to the sole is the removal of the point at the toe. The tread is rounded for a natural break-over, softening those hard miles that many horses travel in boots. For horses whose hooves were too narrow to fit into the original Old Mac's, there is good news. The shape of the sole on the G2 is different, just slightly longer than wide. This is an important feature that will allow more horses to wear the boots comfortably and securely.

Integrating the side flaps into the sole and adding a front protective shield has made the G2 more stylish and streamlined. The side flap integration narrows the boot and reduces the amount of bulk over the foot, and the new protective shield prevents wear at the front of the boot. The rear of the boot is now integrated into the sole. This design strengthens the rear of the boot and eliminates the possibility of fitting the boot on a hoof that is too long. In addition, the rivets that could cause irritation to the frog area have been removed.

They are completely updated to fit better and last longer. Pastern wraps are now included in each package at no additional cost. Users of the original Old Mac's should be aware that the sizing on the new boots has completely changed, and an accurate measurement is needed before fitting. (For die-hard Old Mac's users, the original boots are still available).

Old Mac's G2 Multi-Purpose Horse Boots Sizing Before you begin taking hoof measurements, please ensure your horse has a fresh and accurate trim. Simply follow the steps below to select the correct size. Feel free to contact our friendly staff for assistance. Sizing is imperative to a good fit. We cannot exchange used boots. Old Mac’s G2 are available in 11 sizes (0-10) with each size increasing by 5mm (3/16 inch) in width and length. It is important to note Old Mac’s G2 sizes are in no way comparable to metal shoes sizes. The unique design feature of Old Mac’s G2 allows for width and length adjustment and is therefore suitable for both wide and narrow hooves. Old Mac’s G2 sizing allows for natural hoof growth between trimming. If your horse’s hooves are excessively long and narrow, Old Mac’s Inserts are available separately. Immediately after a proper trim measure your horse’s hooves. If you intend to use Old Mac’s G2's over metal shoes for transportation then you must take your measurements AFTER shoeing. Correct size selection and proper fitting is very important and will ensure maximum performance from Old Mac’s G2 Multi-purpose Horse Boots™. How to get the correct size boot for your horse: Trim Hoof - Before measuring, ensure your horse’s hooves have been correctly trimmed with all flare and excessive length removed. We also recommend that the edge of the hoof wall, where it meets the ground, be beveled (rolled) with a rasp. This removes the sharp edge of the hoof wall and prevents chipping and white line separation. Select Size - Accurately measure the length and width of your horse’s hoof at the widest point. From the charts below, select the size that matches the measurement.

If your horse is between sizes, go to the larger size.

It is common for the LENGTH measurement to exceed the WIDTH measurement by up to four sizes. If the width measurement exceeds the length by more than one size (an extremely short and wide foot) OR if the length exceeds the width by more than four sizes (a very long and narrow foot), we do not recommend Old Mac's.

Old Mac’s Inserts should ONLY be used:

• If the length exceeds the width by more than four sizes on the size chart
• For a club foot
• If one hoof is distinctly smaller than the other
