We've had the 3 gallon version for a couple of years and haven't had a problem with rusting under normal use. Granted - we do not heat them in the winter; as we live in Kentucky.Oliver, Thu Sep 13, 2012

These work well, but don't expect them to last too long especially if you have to heat it in the winter to keep it from freezing. The galvanizing wears off and then the waterer starts to rust. I have started to use the plastic waterers with the built in heater in the base. They are not as easy to use, but don't rust.Brenda Woodward, Sat Jan 22, 2011
