The calculator below can be used to calculate the volume of water in a square or rectangular pond not taking into account shelves or differing depths. To calculate the water volume of an irregular shaped pond, make the calculation based upon an average length, width and depth.
Make an approximate 10-15% allowance for shelves and plants and the fact that the depth may not be consistent and the pond may not be a regular shape.
Effective volume is the quantity of water in your pond, adjusted for shallow ponds and/or ponds exposed to high levels of sunlight.
Either of these situations will result in a higher than normal algae growth, and fish pollution.
The effective volume should be considered the minimum size for the equipment that you select.
